Smell the Roses

Smell The Roses (Mercy Weiss & Claudio Meluzzi)

This song came up when I played a sequence of chords on the piano and noticed that these chords created no tension. This reminded me later of Erik Satie’s Gymnopédie No. 1 (though there’s no clear connection between the two).

Then I sent this sequence of chords (+ drums) to Mercy Weiss and she presented this nice melody to which I added other instruments and effects in order to create this light and airy atmosphere. Enjoy!

Lyrics:

cents and seconds
how are we supposed to pay
through cents and seconds

with cents and seconds
we can have our way
cents and seconds

i think that we were wrong
and im sorry i played along but
i dont owe a second
bask

with cents and seconds
we can have our way
cents and seconds
cents and seconds
how are we supposed to pay
through cents and seconds

if i dont owe a second
i dont owe a second
i dont owe a second
i dont owe a second

my friends and i we set the date to
take the time and to create it
we take the plot and separate it
mostly forced to medicate it
we set the time to self create it and bask
to have a day

have a day
have a day
bask
and have a day

ah ive stopped and smelled the roses
that ive passed in haste each day

i think that we were wrong
and im sorry that i played along but

cents and seconds
how are we supposed to pay
through cents and seconds
with cents and seconds
we can have our way
cents and seconds

i dont owe a second
i dont owe a second
i dont owe a second
bask
and have a day
